Prophets and Priests

This excellent book, by Ann Farmer presents the true, sinister story of the Birth Control Movement; which is a far cry from the bowdlerised fantasy version its modern supporters have been anxious to promote. It is a story of elitism, racism, bigotry and abortion. It is a history of experimentation on women and the poor.

I read it a few years ago and have quoted from it a number of times in Pro-Life talks. I notice that it is now on sale at the reduced price of £5 plus p&p, from St Anthony Communications (tel 01834812643 or sales@saintant.com)

At the risk of blowing my own vuvuzela, my book 'By Their Fruits: Eugenics, Population Control and the Abortion Campaign' (Catholic University of America, 2008)is even more pertinent re. pro-life issues, giving the true history of the abortion campaign and its origins, and the truth about back-street abortion. Sadly it is very expensive, but can be requested from libraries (as a parish project, it would be worth ordering one to lend out to those interested). It details the links between birth control, abortion, euthanasia and population control advocacy. But it is encouraging to note that 'Prophets & Priests' is still proving useful - it originated as the first chapter of 'By Their Fruits' but grew to book-length. Best wishes and thanks for a very interesting blog - Ann Farmer.
